101 Years Today – Tulsa Race Massacre – Survivors, Descendants & Tulsa’s Black Community Still Fighting for Full Justice, Reparations

Today marks 101 years since the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre (May 31 – June 1). It was an act of government-sanctioned domestic terrorism and ongoing anti-Black government policies created by the city of Tulsa and state of Oklahoma continue to compound harms created by the massacre. Today like always, we stand alongside Tulsa’s Black community and want to uplift the lives of the three known living survivors, Mother Viola Fletcher (108), Mother Lessie Benningfield Randle (107), and Mr. Hughes Van Ellis, and the thousands of descendants who are relentless in their pursuit of full reparations and justice. Led by survivors and descendants, the Black Wall Street Legacy Festival kicked off a series of events and programs this weekend to commemorate the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. You can find more about the events that took place here: https://www.blackwallstreetlegacyfest.com/. If you missed the incredibly powerful and moving Survivors & Descendants Homecoming Event, you can view a recording of it here:
