“… a powerful and moving tribute to the core of selfless volunteers …”
— Steve Buscemi, Actor; Former New York City Firefighter
At a time when our nation has never been more divided and polarized, we remember a moment in history when, immediately following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Americans were united in spirit.
After the 9/11 attacks, New Yorkers rushed to Ground Zero to volunteer, despite the authorities’ best efforts to kick them out. Gathering at the makeshift Hard Hat Café on the edge of “the pit,” they provided food, supplies, and open hearts to the first responders.
Watch this intimate story, as these fearless volunteers work to mend their city and each other, creating hope and healing in the wake of disaster.
“It’s about Ground Zero, but more broadly it’s about the extraordinary sense of solidarity, fellow-feeling, and, yes, patriotism that was experienced by nearly everyone in New York, and maybe everyone in the country, in the days and weeks after the attack.”
— Hendrik Hertzberg, The New Yorker
