The Middle East has so many obvious crises – spreading COVID, unending wars in Syria, Yemen and Libya, Islamic extremism, corruption and poor government – that it’s easy for emerging crises to go unnoticed until it’s too late. But the fact is the region may be on the cusp of an era of rising food prices and even shortages that could easily set off a storm of political unrest.
