How can the arts play a role in addressing the global climate crisis? A December 2021 exhibit at the Ceres Gallery in Manhattan, Earth on the Edge, curated by M. Annenberg, featured the works of 12 artists on the subjects of climate change and mass extinction. In the first half of this week’s show, Mickey speaks with two artist/activists whose works were included in the Ceres exhibit, Marcia Annenberg and Angela Manno. They discuss their work, along with the influence of E.O. Wilson, and intersections of art and news censorship around the climate crisis. Then we share excerpts of some of the talks given at the exhibit’s opening panel, from Elly Lessin, Drawdown, NY.

Marcia Annenberg works in painting, sculpture and mixed media. Her work, “No News is Good News,” was adapted for the cover of Censored 2014: Fearless Speech in Fateful Times. Angela Manno uses a wide range of materials in her artwork, and focuses her subject matter on nature and humanity’s place in it.
