Joining a growing collection of towns and cities across the country, Northampton will begin exploring its past treatment of Black residents to determine whether it owes any form of reparations to the local Black community.
The city will form a reparations commission that could ultimately recommend a variety of measures to aid Black people who live, work or study in Northampton — whom city councilors said, in a resolution passed unanimously Thursday night, historically faced inequitable treatment from the city and its predominantly white residents.
