The Register of Damage for Ukraine (RD4U) has launched a Coordination Platform to partner with civil society in supporting claimants through the process of filing claims for damage caused by Russian aggression. This was announced by RD4U Executive Director Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi during the “Together for Justice” event organised by the Register in Kyiv.

The Platform aims to unite the efforts of RD4U and civil society organisations working with war-affected individuals and communities. This will enable more effective awareness-raising campaigns both in Ukraine and abroad regarding the Register’s activities and claims submission procedures, as well as building organisations’ capacity to provide direct assistance to affected persons.

The event brought together over 120 representatives from more than 50 organisations, including international organisations, and government officials, as well as Register’s Board members Dr. Norbert Wühler and Yulia Kyrpa.

Participating organisations confirmed their commitment to active cooperation within the Coordination Platform, which embodies the Register’s victim-centred approach and focuses on protecting the rights and addressing the needs of victims of aggression.

The Register of Damage for Ukraine is a crucial international instrument for holding Russia accountable and a first step towards future compensation for Ukrainians. It is critical to ensure the Register’s accessibility for all affected persons, providing them with all necessary information, assistance, and support. The Coordination Platform launched today will become the foundation for a claimant support system. Through joint work with civil society organisations, international and national partners, we can help bring the stories of millions of affected persons to the Register and take an important step towards reparations and the restoration of justice,” stated RD4U Executive Director Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi.

Establishment of the coordination platform was welcomed by Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. “We understand there is still much work ahead, but this path is our only chance for justice. We will not stop until the international compensation mechanism is fully operational. And we will not stop until there is justice for every Ukrainian. Together, we can stop aggression, restore justice, and build peace for future generations,” remarked Ms Mudra, opening the event.

The Council of Europe Office implements an unprecedented number of projects in Ukraine, many supporting war-affected people. There is strong synergy between our work and the Register of Damage, particularly in outreach and awareness raising. We look forward to enhancing cooperation with national partners and civil society through the Register’s coordination platform launched today,” highlighted Mr Maciej Janczak, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine.

The RD4U Coordination Platform creates a space for effective interaction between civil society and the Register through information sharing, access to methodological materials, and training activities on claims submission procedures.

During the event, RD4U representatives presented the Register’s work, claims submission and processing procedures, and integration with the “Diia” system. Participants discussed cooperation mechanisms for supporting claimants within the coordination platform.

With the upcoming expansion of claim categories, the Register plans to promptly begin implementing initial initiatives within the established platform.
