Each of these 1 000 days, just like the 8 years before, has been accompanied by numerous violations and international crimes which is an unprecedented challenge for Ukraine and the world in general.

Significant efforts to improve the system (in particular after 24 February 2022) have brought results, but the justice architecture for Ukraine is still not complete and contains significant gaps. With more crimes being committed every day, there is a growing risk that they will not be properly addressed, that evidence may be lost, and that victims may not receive proper support.

The overloaded domestic system on the one hand and the limited capacity of international justice mechanisms on the other is a global challenge. To effectively address these gaps, consistent, well-coordinated work of all branches of government, civil society and international partners is required, based on an understanding of the real needs of the system.

Today is an opportunity to remember that without a reliable justice architecture, it is impossible to build a just future. Addressing hundreds of thousands of war crimes, human rights violations and destroyed lives require effective mechanisms. Every day without a systematic approach is another day without justice for the victims.
