Grateful to have attended Secretary Blinken’s roundtable with Yezidi civil society leaders in commemorating the 10th anniversary of the ISIS genocide against Yezidis, Christians, and Shia Muslims and ethnic cleansing against other groups. The Yezidi leaders requested continued US support for fostering durable solutions for Iraqi IDPs and the full implementation of the Sinjar Agreement and Yezidi Survivors law to promote healing and restoration for victim and survivor communities. The US government is steadfastly committed to pursuing justice, accountability, and reparative measures for ISIS’s gruesome crimes. We are working vigorously to support Iraq to fill the institutional gaps left by the impending closure of UNITAD on September 17, 2024, and ensure that UNITAD’s immense evidence holdings remain safely preserved, managed, and administered by the UN Secretariat to support third state prosecutions of ISIS members and enablers.
