This International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma Webinar is held in advance of the 12th anniversary of the ISIS genocide against the Yazidis (August 3, 2014). Yazidi survivors, educational, civil society and community leaders will share and reflect upon their post-genocide experiences and their ongoing efforts to nurture healing and foster the resilience of their people.

Speakers:

Najla

A Yazidi survivor and human rights activist currently living in Germany, Najla was born in Kocho Village of Sinjar, Iraq. ISIS invaded her home in 2014, killed both her parents and two of her brothers, abducted and enslaved her for eight months. Freed in April 2015 Najla migrated to Germany through Baden-Württemberg 2014 Special Quota Humanitarian Admission Program providing medical and psychosocial support to Yazidi women and children ISIS survivors. Najla has been working for human rights, especially of Yazidi women.

Zirak Hameed

Zirakis the Founder and President of Panaga Organization for Education and an Advisory Council Member of the International Center for Multigenerational Legacies of Trauma (ICMGLT). A humanitarian and educator from the Yazidi community, he has over a decade of experience in teaching, school management, incorporating community-led programs in education, psychosocial support and trauma recovery for children and family survivors of genocide with Panaga.

Bahzad Farhan

Bahzad Farhan is the founder and president of Kinyat, a Yazidi organization dedicated to documenting the 2014 Yazidi genocide, preserving Yazidi cultural heritage, and advancing justice for survivors. He leads efforts to document ISIS crimes, identify perpetrators, preserve survivor testimonies, and compile evidence for national and international accountability processes while safeguarding the collective memory of the Yazidi community.

Jenan Saydo

An English teacher at Al-Shamal Mixed Intermediate School in Sinuni, Jenan Saydo is a graduate of the University of Al-Hamdaniya, College of Education. She has completed professional training in civic engagement, peacebuilding, and modern learning facilitation through International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) and Jesuit Worldwide Learning (JWL). Jenan has been committed to creating inclusive, student-centered classrooms that foster dialogue, respect, and meaningful learning in post the August 2014 genocide.

Nayef Sabri

Nayef Sabri is the founder and president of Sunrise NGO. He is an Lebanese American University alumnus, a Middle East Partnership Initiative Tomorrow’s (MEPI) Leaders alumnus, and holds a master’s degree in human resource management. A Yazidi humanitarian leader from Sinjar, he has led locally rooted work in education, protection, livelihoods, peacebuilding, and social cohesion for communities affected by conflict, displacement, and genocide.

Dr. Yael Danieli

A clinical psychologist, traumatologist, victimologist and psychohistorian, Dr. Danieli is Founder, Executive Director and Senior Representative to the United Nations of the International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma (ICMGLT); Director, Group Project for Holocaust Survivors and their Children and Past-President, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
