New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick announced on Monday that he will not accept the Presidential Medal of Freedom he was reportedly scheduled to receive from President Donald Trump.

News broke on Sunday that Trump intended to bestow the nation’s highest civilian honor on the longtime NFL coach. The news was met with criticism in the aftermath of last week’s attack on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob.
