AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Less than 24 hours after the Aurora Police Department released body camera footage of an officer strangling and pistol-whipping a suspect in an arrest, community activists are addressing police brutality in the Denver metro area.Body camera video shows Aurora officer strangling, pistol-whipping suspect 

Officers John Haubert and Francine Martinez are facing several crimes. Haubert faces 3 felonies, including attempted first-degree assault and second-degree assault, strangulation. Martinez faces two misdemeanors, including duty to intervene, which was a charge recently passed by a sweeping police accountability bill last summer.

“We’re disgusted, we’re angry,” Wilson said. “This is not police work. We don’t train this. It’s not acceptable.”

Arrest affidavits say that officer Haubert held his gun at a man’s head and strangled him for 39 seconds during an arrest on Friday and Martinez failed to report the use of force despite being there the entire time.Officer arrests show Colorado police reform law ‘is working,’ lawmaker says 

“The narrative by departments that there needs to be more money and training is overshadowed by unanswered 911 calls, not sending mental health response teams, and the continued violence against citizens,” the group said in a press release.

The activist group included members of the community, a civil rights attorney, members of Aurora city council, and a state representative.
