Focusing primarily on women/girls victims/survivors/witnesses, and elaborating on the critical need for transforming retributive to reparative justice, this ICMGLT side event of the 2026 Commission of the Status of Women (CSW) NGO CSW 70: A Global Gathering for Gender Equality will emphasize the urgent need for specialized training in reparative justice for professionals and others working with them that would enable them to identify, listen empathically, navigate and overcome challenges in engaging, interviewing and supporting traumatized women/girls (potential) witnesses, in their quest for justice, healing and full psychocultural and political integration into their families, communities and societies.

Speakers:

Haider Elias, BA, MS

A globally renowned expert on Yazidis, Haider travels worldwide to advocate for Yazidis. Hader is the co-founder and former president of YAZDA, a Yazidi NGO and the co-founder of Nadia’s Initiative, an NGO headed by Yazidi survivor, Nadia Murad.  Haider has served as a translator and cultural advisor for the US government in Iraq.  A member of ICMGLT’s Yazidi Working Group, Haider is also a member ICMGLT’s Advisory Council.

Amelda Khudeeda 

A displaced Yazidi woman from Sinjar, with a degree in Civil Engineering, after the 2014 genocide, Amelda transitioned to humanitarian work, collaborating with organizations to support survivors and communities affected by ISIS. She has advocated for victim/survivors’ rights for support and justice across Iraq, focusing on empowering women/girls, addressing their unique challenges in crisis zones, and striving for positive, sustainable change in a just society.

Tetiana Soboleva, MD

Applying her expertise during the last three years to responding to conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and other war crimes, Tetiana focuses on medico-legal documentation of crimes, advocacy for aligning national healthcare and forensic medical legislation with international standards and addressing survivors’ needs. Previously heading the Forensic Medical Examination Unit at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, she now serves as an external consultant to international organizations on CRSV response

Veronika Plotnikova, PhD

Head of the Coordination Center for the Support of Victims and Witnesses of the Prosecutor General’s Office in Ukraine, Veronika Plotnikova has been working in the prosecutor’s institutions’ system for over 15 years, leading the specialized units for implementing human rights standards into the prosecutor’s services. She co-authored the practical commentary on the Code of Professional Ethics of Prosecutors, is a trainer in the Training Center of Prosecutors of Ukraine, and national expert of projects of Council of Europe.

Dr. Yael Danieli

A Clinical psychologist, traumatologist, victimologist and psychohistorian, Dr. Danieli is Founder, Executive Director and Senior Representative to the United Nations of the International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma (ICMGLT); Director, Group Project for Holocaust Survivors and their Children and Past-President, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
