When Malmö, Sweden’s third largest city, was announced as the site of the upcoming International Forum on Holocaust Remembrance and Combating Antisemitism, some eyebrows were raised.

The city has a unique history: This is where Danish Jews arrived after crossing the Öresund strait when they were fleeing the Nazis in 1943. But in recent years, Malmö has found itself time after time mentioned in media reports as a symbol of a new kind of Swedish antisemitism.
