Today, Monday, October 14, 2024, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a day to honor the strengths, brilliance, culture, histories, and lands of Indigenous Peoples, while also acknowledging the truths about the impact of colonization. Let this be a time for deep reflection guiding our actions with the wisdom we’ve gained.
We also want to shine a light on our incredible team members who tirelessly serve their communities every day. Their dedication and passion inspire us all. As we embrace each new sunrise and sunset, we carry their efforts in our hearts and minds.
We invite everyone to explore the latest initiatives and projects at the Center for Indigenous Health. By recognizing and supporting our work and partnerships with Indigenous communities, we can create a meaningful impact and build a brighter future together.

Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Great Lakes Hub
As we mark the anniversary of the Center for Indigenous Health’s Great Lakes Hub, we reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had since opening our doors in Duluth, Minnesota, on a brisk fall day in October 2019. Over the past years, the Hub has seen tremendous growth, quadrupling in staff, office space, and community-based projects.
This remarkable progress would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our partners in Indigenous communities, our colleagues at Johns Hopkins University, the Bloomberg American Health Initiative, and the Center itself.
In the special video message below, Dr. Melissa Walls, Director of the Great Lakes Hub and Co-Director of Center for Indigenous Health, shares her heartfelt reflections.
We look forward to continuing this journey together and are excited for what the future holds. Chi miigwech!
