Abstract
The present study concerns itself with the exploration of the lives of a group of children of survivors who are now approaching or are at the age at which their parents became victims and survivors of the Holocaust. The sample consisted of 10 males and 10 females, aged 18–26 yrs, residing in the US, who were interviewed. The interview generated data in the following areas: (1) parents’ life histories and Ss’ reports of their influence on them; (2) parents’ character and family relationships; (3) Ss’ developmental histories with special attention to the evolution of their interaction with the world; (4) general characterological assessment of Ss with particular attention to modes of adaptation to issues of separation, aggression, and mistrust; (5) unconscious themes with special attention to Holocaust symbolism; and (6) identity, with special attention to the possible influence of the Holocaust.
