This International Center for the Study, Prevention and Treatment of MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma webinar introduces four recent books by descendants of Holocaust survivors published during perhaps the most difficult time for Jewish life since the end of WW II. International panelists will share their (grand)parents’ and their own journeys of repairing their families’ historical ruptures from manifold, multidimensional, multidisciplinary, thoroughly explored contexts, each from a unique intergenerational perspective.
Speakers:

Aron Hirt-Manheimer, MA, MS
Aron Hirt-Manheimer was born in 1948 to Holocaust survivors in Feldafing, a displaced persons camp in United States-Occupied Germany. He served as the editor of Reform Judaism magazine Judaism from 1976-2014, and as editor-in-chief of the Holocaust Library. His books include Jagendorf’s Foundry: A Memoir of the Romanian Holocaust and Jews: The Essence and Character of a People coauthored with Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg.

Marty Yura, MA
With a Master’s in Psychology, Marty Yura served for five years as a military psychologist before turning to the study and teaching of yoga. Today he works with both civilians and veterans, including those living with PTSD and other physical and mental health conditions, bringing together his backgrounds in psychology, mindfulness, and yoga to support healing and personal growth.

Bea Lurie
The daughter of two child Holocaust survivors, Sol and Evelyn Rebecca Lurie, who escaped from Poland with two toddlers, Bea learned from them the importance of helping those in need and devoted her career to making a difference in the lives of others as a leader of nonprofit organizations and government agencies, an owner of two businesses and an active volunteer in her community.

Todd Diamond
Todd Diamond, born in Queens, New York, delivers narratives that are unapologetically raw and darkly humorous—a reflection of the borough that raised him. Whether it’s sordid tales from his advertising career or stories about his family’s Holocaust experiences, he resonates with those who prefer their prose served with a healthy dose of cynicism and unsweetened insight.

Inbal Shlomi, MD
A granddaughter of Israeli Auschwitz survivor Hannah Shlomi, Inbal is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist who founded “By Your Side”—the first long-term inpatient unit in Israel for treating complex trauma at Merhavim Mental Health Center, Beer Yaakov. A lecturer at Tel Aviv University, Inbal recently authored “Everything Belongs to Nobody”.
Moderator:

Dr. Yael Danieli
A Clinical psychologist, traumatologist, victimologist and psychohistorian, Dr. Danieli is Founder, Executive Director and Senior Representative to the United Nations of the International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma (ICMGLT); Director, Group Project for Holocaust Survivors and their Children and Past-President, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
