HUMAN RIGHTS:
The Darfur Network for Human Rights documented the case of torture of Ibet Khatem for 58 days by the RSF. He was starved, beaten, and tortured with a hot iron and witnessed the death of many other detainees.

Africans for the Horn of Africa Af4HA sent a letter to the UN Security Council urging member states to support the ongoing ICC investigation into Darfur. They called for Hemedti and Burhan to be held accountable, greater protection of civilians, and critiqued the slow progress by the ICC. The FIDH – International Federation for Human Rights has urged the international community to prioritise the demands of Sudanese civilians for an end to the violence, unrestricted humanitarian aid for the entire country, and civilian democratic rule.

Report from Zamzam IDP camp in North Darfur detailing the deteriorating conditions and rape of women and girls by the RSF. Report from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on the high risk of genocide in Darfur. Report from the Conflict Observatory Network (YCON) on the war in Sudan following the fall of Wad Madani.

HUMANITARIAN:
The UN and its agencies should declare a national famine in Sudan due to the compounding impacts of violence on the agricultural sector, according to Fikra for Studies and Development. Nearly 50% of the country needs food aid. Only 37% of normal agricultural lands were cultivated this year. Wheat cultivation declined by at least 70%. The repeated raids of WFP warehouses have exacerbated an already dire situation.

ONGOING VIOLENCE:
5 people died after intercommunal clashes erupted in Kassab locality in Gedaref on Wednesday. 52 people were killed and 64 injured in violence in Abeyi, the disputed region between Sudan and South Sudan. Two peacekeepers were also killed after armed men attacked the UNICEF HQ and were repelled by UN forces. The UN has previously warned that the insecurity in Sudan could destabilise the precarious situation in Abeyi.

POLITICS AND PEACE:
The UAE has deployed troops to train Chadian soldiers. Military Africa alleges that “the UAE has also been providing medical assistance and arms to fighters on one side of the Sudanese civil war [the RSF]” along the Chadian border.

INTERNATIONAL RESPONSES:
The US House Foreign Affairs Committee introduced a resolution calling on the international community to support diplomatic efforts, unfettered humanitarian access, and the appointment of a Presidential Envoy for Sudan. The resolution also calls for Sudan to be suspended from all regional and multilateral organisations until a civilian-led government is established. The Troika (US, UK, and Norway) condemned the attacks against UNISFA in Abeyi. The ICC delivered its 38th report on the situation in Darfur.
