              <text>Reaching the three targets of the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) Action Plan is the litmus test for effective EPSR implementation. While the EPSR puts forward a prima facie balance between employment, equal opportunities and social protection, two important questions arise: a) whether and to what extent the resources available at EU level are sufficiently balanced across the different dimensions of the EPSR; and b) which implications this may have for achieving the 2030 poverty target. Analysing the three domains of the EPSR, its Action Plan and the wider EU legal framework of the principles contained in the EPSR, the paper argues that abundant EU resources are available for the areas of equality and employment, but fewer for social inclusion. The empirical evidence on poverty trends over the past decades, however, points to important successes in terms of employment and (gender) equality, but not with respect to social inclusion: a significant increase in employment and defeminisation of poverty have been accompanied by greater precarity for low-skilled men and women. Particularly striking is the rise in the risk of poverty among jobless households, linked with the weakening of the poverty reduction capacity of social protection for this group. Meeting the European social inclusion targets will thus require policies that duly focus on strengthening the framework for social inclusion and social protection.</text>

              <text>To effectively increase American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) representation in the psychological workforce and prepare AI/AN psychologists to serve AI/AN communities, transformation is critically needed in graduate training programs. Therefore, we provide an illustrative case example of a graduate student-led, cross-institutional Indigenous Research Group (IRG) mentored by an Indigenous faculty member. Using first-person and synthesized narratives, we summarize our transformative experience in the IRG as a journey in which we found belonging and community, culturally responsive mentorship and training, and the support to become emergent Indigenous psychologists. Informed by the student and faculty mentor reflections on the IRG, we then provide recommendations for graduate programs to support Indigenous students. Ultimately, the IRG is a testament to the creative ways Indigenous scholars navigate the academy and serves as well as a call for faculty to support the next generation of AI/AN psychologists.</text>

              <text>This Special Issue interrogates the limitations and possibilities of truth within global efforts to address historical injustice. Over the past 30 years truth commissions have become ubiquitous in response to authoritarian regimes and colonial legacies. However, their ability to facilitate meaningful transformation is increasingly contested. In this editorial we explore what a decolonial reckoning, rather than reconciliation, with the past and colonial logics of power, might mean. In doing so, we argue that the liberal, modernist imaginary of justice on which many truth processes have been premised, is constraining our imagination of more radical ‘fugitive’ forms justice. Drawing from contributions from Australia and other global contexts this special issue investigates these limitations and the transformative potential of truth as a decolonial, sovereign, embodied and relational praxis. Contributors engage with the pluriversality of truth in ways that trouble the nation-state and centre the sovereignty and onto-epistemology of racialised and First Nations peoples, often excluded from transitional justice processes, thus offering pathways for radical resistance, resurgence and prefigurative transformation.</text>

              <text>Digital technology is woven into the fabric of modern family life. Smartphones, tablets, and other digital devices help families with communication, scheduling, and entertainment. Despite its benefits, routine technology use (eg, texting, scrolling through social media) can also disrupt interactions between parents and their children of all ages, a phenomenon encapsulated by the understudied concept of technoference. A recent phone-tracking study of parents with young infants found that parents spend 5.12 hours per day on their smartphones and 27% of the time with their infant engaged with their digital device. Similar rates are identified across age groups, with 68% of US parents with a child younger than 17 years reporting that they become distracted by their smartphones during interactions with their children. In early childhood, parental technoference is associated with decreases in parent-child engagement, reduced ability to notice and attend to children’s needs, less frequent and lower-quality joint play and conversational turns, more negative responses to children’s behavior, and higher risk of child injury. In adolescence, adolescent-perceived parental technoference is associated with higher levels of parent-child conflict and lower levels of parental emotional support and warmth. When children’s emotional and physical needs are consistently ignored or inappropriately responded to, they are at risk of developing mental health difficulties, underscoring the need to investigate parental technoference as a potential precipitant of the development of mental health difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, and inattention.</text>

              <text>Law and neuroscience seem strange bedfellows. But the engagement of law with neuroscientific evidence was inevitable. For one thing, the effectiveness of legal systems in regulating behavior and meting out justice often depends on weighing evidence about how and why a person behaved as he or she did. And these are things that neuroscience can sometimes illuminate. For another, lawyers are ethically bound to champion their clients' interests. So they remain alert for new, relevant, or potentially persuasive information, such as neuroscience may at times offer, that could help to explain or contextualize behavior of their clients.</text>

              <text>Immigration occurs between countries either to obtain employment, for family reunification or to escape violence and other life-threatening conditions. Refugees and asylum seekers are often obligated to overcome a uniquely challenging set of circumstances prior to and during migration. Settlement following immigration may pose yet another set of stressors related to acculturation to the host country, as well as financial insecurity, discrimination, language barriers, and social isolation. Here we discuss the multiple consequences of immigration experiences, focusing on the health disturbances that frequently develop in adults and children. Aside from the psychosocial influences, immigration-related challenges may cause hormonal, inflammatory immune, and microbiota changes that favor psychological and physical illnesses. Some biological alterations are subject to modification by epigenetic changes, which have implications for intergenerational trauma transmission, as might disruptions in parenting behaviors and family dysfunction. Despite the hardships experienced, many immigrants and their families exhibit positive psychological adjustment after resettlement. We provide information to diminish the impacts associated with immigration and offer strength-based approaches that may foster resilience.</text>

              <text>On June 21, 2023, the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement and the Roundtable for the Promotion of Health Equity held a workshop on the Ecosystem of Health Equity Measures in Oakland, California. The co-chair of the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement, Ana Diez Roux of Drexel University, made opening remarks reflecting on the roundtable’s past exploration of measures (or metrics1) of health disparity and health equity that considered how these measures can be used to enhance understanding and awareness, and to promote and support action. She noted that measures reflect values, and they can be used to both illuminate and mask reality, thus warranting discussion and debate. Planning committee chair Sheri Johnson of the University of Wisconsin, Madison gave an overview of the workshop objectives and the agenda. The evolving ecosystem of health equity measures, she stated, includes scientists, practitioners, and people with “firsthand knowledge of systems and structures that produce inequity.” She added that collaboration and alignment are needed to decide what new measures are needed, what measures should be retired, and what measures matter. Though not offering a comprehensive examination of the ecosystem of measures, the workshop was intended to: Critique concepts, language, narratives, and framing of measurement of health equity; Examine the nature and purpose of metrics for transformational change; Discuss the state of the science and the social and political implications of designing data collection and methods; and Explore measures at different scales and in different domains.
