Abstract
This report details a needs assessment conducted in Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding communities following the devastating floods of January 2023. The assessment, a collaboration between the Marninwarntikura Women’s Resource Centre, Royal Far West, and UNICEF Australia, aimed to understand the flood's impact on the social and emotional wellbeing of children and families, identify community needs, and gather recommendations for future disaster preparedness and recovery. The findings, based on interviews with community members and service providers, highlight the compounding effects of pre-existing disadvantage and the urgent need for child-focused disaster response strategies. The report emphasizes the resilience of the community and the importance of incorporating their voices in developing effective solutions.
