              <text>The present article reviews the growing literature on micro-level (daily or situation-specific) acculturation processes and provides new empirical evidence regarding the link between macro-level (general) and micro-level acculturation indices. The review covers the evolution of acculturation theory and research to focus on separate heritage and destination cultural dimensions and on specific domains (e.g., practices, values, identifications), to include longitudinal research designs, and to incorporate daily diary methodologies. The empirical study includes 824 Hispanic college students in Miami (76.1 % female) who participated in a 12-day diary study. General (macro-level) acculturation measures were administered on Days 1 and 12, and daily (micro-level) acculturation measures were administered on Days 2-11. Each of six acculturation components (dimension-domain pairings) - U.S. practices, Hispanic practices, individualist values, collectivist values, U.S. identity, and ethnic identity - was assessed using full scales on Days 1 and 12 and using single items on Days 2-11. Daily means and daily fluctuations, computed as the standard deviation of Day 2-11 scores, were included during the daily portion of the study. Analyses examined the extent to which earlier macro-level acculturation scores would predict daily means and fluctuations, as well as the extent to which these daily means and fluctuations would predict later macro-level acculturation scores. For each acculturation component, daily means were related to Day 1 and Day 12 scores, though the strengths of these associations varied across components. Daily fluctuations were negatively associated with Day 1 and 12 scores for U.S. and Hispanic practices, but these associations were less consistent for the values and identifications components. These results are discussed in terms of the overlap between micro and macro level acculturation processes, and in terms of the future of acculturation research</text>

              <text>Chandler and Lalonde broadened the scope of inquiry in suicide research by providing theoretical grounding and empirical support for the role of community, culture, and history in understanding Indigenous youth suicide and reimagining its prevention. Their work pushed the field to consider the intersectional process of individual and collective meaning-making in prevention of Indigenous suicide, together with the central role culture plays in bringing coherence to this process over time. Their innovation shifted the research focus to include the shared histories, contexts, and structures of meaning that shape individual lives and behaviors. We describe here a new generation of research extending their pathbreaking line of inquiry. Recent work aims to identify complex associations between community-level structures and suicidal behavior by collaborating with Alaska Native people from rural communities to describe how community protective factors function as preventative resources in their daily lives. Community engagement and knowledge co-production created a measure of community protection from suicide. Structured interviews with rural Alaska Native community members allowed use of this measure to produce relevant, accessible, and actionable knowledge. Ongoing investigations next seek to describe their mechanisms in shaping young people's lives through a multilevel, mixed-methods community-based study linking community-level protection to protection and well-being of individual youth. These efforts to understand the multiple culture-specific and culturally mediated pathways by which communities build on their strengths, resources, and practices to support Indigenous young people's development and reduce suicide risk are inspired by and expand on Chandler and Lalonde's remarkable legacy.</text>

              <text>The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding of how historical trauma and one’s degree of ethnic identity relate to symptoms of depression, due to controversy in the literature about such variables. Participants in this study self-identified as Native American, were over the age of 18, and were currently enrolled or have been previously enrolled at the University of North Dakota (UND). Participants completed a survey online via Qualtrics to gather information about their ethnic identity, frequency of historical loss thinking, and symptoms of depression. Historical loss thinking was found to be very prevalent among this sample, and this was found to contribute significantly to depressive symptoms in Indigenous college students. Various aspects of ethnic identity may contribute to an increase or decrease in historical loss thinking and subsequent depressive symptoms, and this has significant implications for clinicians working with Indigenous college students and UND as an institution.</text>

              <text>On June 21, 2023, the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement and the Roundtable for the Promotion of Health Equity held a workshop on the Ecosystem of Health Equity Measures in Oakland, California. The co-chair of the Roundtable on Population Health Improvement, Ana Diez Roux of Drexel University, made opening remarks reflecting on the roundtable’s past exploration of measures (or metrics1) of health disparity and health equity that considered how these measures can be used to enhance understanding and awareness, and to promote and support action. She noted that measures reflect values, and they can be used to both illuminate and mask reality, thus warranting discussion and debate. Planning committee chair Sheri Johnson of the University of Wisconsin, Madison gave an overview of the workshop objectives and the agenda. The evolving ecosystem of health equity measures, she stated, includes scientists, practitioners, and people with “firsthand knowledge of systems and structures that produce inequity.” She added that collaboration and alignment are needed to decide what new measures are needed, what measures should be retired, and what measures matter. Though not offering a comprehensive examination of the ecosystem of measures, the workshop was intended to: Critique concepts, language, narratives, and framing of measurement of health equity; Examine the nature and purpose of metrics for transformational change; Discuss the state of the science and the social and political implications of designing data collection and methods; and Explore measures at different scales and in different domains.               <text>Women who have experienced conflict-related sexual violence report significant long-term effects, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and relationship difficulties. Research has demonstrated that maternal trauma is associated with children's behavioural difficulties and challenges in family functioning, such as impaired communication and harsh parenting. This pilot study is aimed at evaluating the preliminary effectiveness of family therapy for Kosovar mothers who experienced conflict-related sexual violence in 1998–1999 and later developed PTSD and their children in improving family functioning and reducing behavioural difficulties in postwar times. Sixty-four mothers were randomised to an intervention group or a waitlist control group. Data was collected during a screening phase, at baseline before intervention initiation, after the intervention group completed family therapy and once the waitlist control group received the intervention. Generalised linear mixed models were used to analyse group differences in family functioning and children's behaviours over time. At follow-up, mothers in the intervention group reported improved family functioning. However, mothers in the waitlist control group reported significantly fewer behavioural difficulties than mothers in the intervention group before the control group had started family therapy. There was no significant interaction between group condition and time for child-rated family functioning. Overall, this pilot study suggests that family therapy could be effective in reducing the effects of intergenerational trauma related to PTSD and conflict-related sexual violence. Future research should evaluate the long-term effects of family therapy to assess if immediate effects were maintained.</text>

              <text>Micronesia has one of the highest suicide rates in the world (WHO, 2016), with numbers reaching alarming and epidemic-like heights for decades (Lowe, 2019). Within this population, research has identified the CHamoru people (e.g., Indigenous Pacific Islanders of the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam) are at the highest risk for suicide attempts and death. Yet, there is a paucity of literature on CHamoru mental health, with only a handful of research studies examining the mental health experiences of the CHamoru people. Thus, little is known to help counseling psychologists understand the mental health of the CHamoru community. Utilizing constructivist grounded theory and liberation psychology, this mixed-method research study offers foundational insight into how CHamoru Cultural Knowledge (e.g., ethnic identity and consciousness) and colonial mentality impact the mental health outcomes of CHamoru people. Quantitative results from this study indicate that ethnic identity and consciousness improved depression and anxiety symptoms and demonstrated that higher levels of consciousness decreased depressive symptoms. Qualitative findings corroborated these results while also further elucidating these findings. These findings provide initial documentation on the impact of colonial mentality and CHamoru Cultural Knowledge on the mental health of CHamoru adults.</text>

              <text>Background Food insecurity has involved more than 750 million individuals worldwide. The association of food insecurity with socio-economic factors is also undeniable demand more consideration. Food insecurity will become a global priority by 2030. This systematic review and meta-analysis examined current literature concerning the association between food insecurity and psychological distress. Methods Relevant researches were identified by searching databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Web of Science, ProQuest, and Cochrane Library up to June 2024 without language limitation. Then a snowball search was conducted in the eligible studies. The quality assessment was made through Newcastle–Ottawa Scale. Results Data were available from 44 cross-sectional articles for systematic review and 17 eligible articles for meta-analysis with 2,267,012 and 1,953,636 participants, respectively. Findings support the growing segment of literature on the association between food insecurity and psychological distress. The highly represented groups were households with low income. Psychological and diabetic distress was directly associated with food insecurity as it increased the odds of distress to 329% (OR: 3.29; 95% CI: 2.46–4.40). Sleep problems, anxiety, depression, lower life satisfaction, obesity, and a higher rate of smoking were among the secondary outcomes. Conclusion Food insecurity was a common stressor that can have a negative impact on psychological well-being and even physical health. The findings should be considered in the public health and making policy-making process.</text>

              <text>Armenian Americans have a rich historical narrative characterized by resilience in the face of adversity. Despite this, a significant research gap exists concerning mental health disparities and barriers to accessing psychotherapy within this community, leading to marginalization and inadequate representation. Consequently, clinicians may lack a comprehensive understanding of the importance of cultural humility in their interactions with Armenian American individuals. This dissertation sought to address these gaps by examining the obstacles hindering Armenian Americans from seeking treatment, with a focus on potential gender-based disparities. Through qualitative research methods, particularly semi-structured interviews, the study explored the perspectives of American-born Armenians, aged 18 and older, on psychotherapeutic treatment and mental health symptoms. Employing Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) methodology facilitated a nuanced understanding of participants' responses, revealing key themes such as stigma, support systems, and adherence to traditional gender roles as primary barriers to treatment. Specifically, societal perceptions of weakness hindered males, while females often relied on informal support networks instead of formal therapy channels. Moreover, traditional gender roles were found to influence perceptions differently for each gender within the community. The findings underscore the importance of efforts to combat stigma, raise awareness, and improve access to culturally competent care to ensure equitable mental health outcomes for Armenian Americans. Establishing a nurturing mental health environment is crucial to providing all members of this community with the support and assistance they need.</text>
