Multigenerational Challenges in Integrating Released Genocide Prisoners in Rwanda

This International Center for the Study, Prevention and Treatment of MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma webinar focuses on the challenges experienced in integrating released genocide prisoners of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi in Rwanda. Presenters will outline the numerous, complex inter/multigenerational challenges experienced by a wide array of those affected, including victim/survivors, their families, and the cohabitation with the perpetrators and their families. The discussion will delineate multidimensional ways to meet the challenges, and draw parallels to other post-genocide situations around the world.

Speakers:

Célestin Sebuhoro, PhD 

Holding a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), Dr Célestin’s research has focused on the traumatic consequences of the genocide against the Tutsi. He emphasizes the concepts of justice, mediation, forgiveness and reconciliation, and intergenerational trauma. He is also a lecturer at the University of Rwanda.

Jean de Dieu Uwizeye, BA

With a BA in Educational Planning and Management from the University of Rwanda, Peace Builder Mr. Uwizeye works at the AMI Organization (Association Modeste et Innocent) whose mission involves conflict resolution, unity and the reconciliation process, via citizen participation and providing trauma healing and family therapy. As an AMI Field Officer, Jean de Dieu works closely with different final beneficiaries.  

Adelite Mukamana, MA

Holding Master’s Degrees in Clinical Psychology and in Genocide Studies and Prevention from University of Rwanda, Adelite is a certified Clinical Supervisor from Institute Français de Gestalt Therapy and was trained in narrative therapy by experts from the Dulwich Centre.  Ms. Mukamana is Senior Psychologist at Prison Fellowship Rwanda.
