The International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma is celebrating the New Jewish Year (5783) with Israeli Artist David (Dudu) Gershtein. Dudu will reflect on the distinct history, methodology, and lessons he learned throughout his journey of becoming one of today’s most prominent and sought after Israeli artist around the world. His work combines the multigenerational learning of the art of cutting from his father, who, like his own father, was a leather shop owner, and his mother’s talents in women’s craft traditions. His father and uncle escaped from Poland, and the remaining family members were murdered in the Holocaust. His mother’s family immigrated to Palestine before the war.
The webinar will focus on Dudu’s most distinctive outdoor sculptures around the globe. In his own words, “I especially like working on outdoor sculptures since they force me to confront technical problems of a different nature. I must consider the location, the environment, the mode of living or working of people there. This is extremely challenging for me, and it is very important to my continual evolvement as an artist.”
