Multigenerational Legacies of the Holocaust in Mexico (Webinar)

Sunday, 12 February, 2023 1:00PM EST / 12:00PM Mexico / 7:00PM CET /  8:00PM Israel

This International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma webinar follows 27 January, the International Day of the Holocaust.  Participants will describe the process of choosing to and making the documentary Whispers of Silence: Listening to the children of Holocaust survivors in Mexico, reflect on its impacts on audiences at home and abroad, and discuss future plans.

Participants are encouraged to watch the film Whispers of Silence: Listening to the children of Holocaust survivors in Mexico prior to the webinar. A link will be provided upon registration. Produced in 2021, based on 90 interviews with Mexican offspring of Holocaust survivors and 15 related experts, the documentary (in Spanish, with English subtitles) follows the survivors’ traumatic Holocaust experiences, their trying journeys to Mexico, where they created a haven for themselves and their newly created families, raising their children in the best ways they knew how, while transmitting to them their Holocaust and post-Holocaust legacies.  The film teaches us this posttraumatic historical complexity with exquisite eloquence, psychosocial sensitivity, commitment to and love of life.
