BREAKING: Nearly 50 U.S. members of Congress have formally urged the Department of the State to prioritize the issue of the ongoing destruction of Armenian cultural, historical, and religious sites by Azerbaijan in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

Since 1997, Azerbaijan has systematically erased Armenian heritage, destroying 98% of cultural sites in Nakhchivan and continuing this pattern with the recent military attacks, ethnic cleansing, and occupation of Nagorno-Karabkh. Under the guise of “restoration,” Azerbaijani actions, like the reconstruction of the St. John the Baptist Church in Shushi, erase significant Armenian landmarks.

Nearly 500 sites in Artsakh hold immense global value, including the UNESCO-recognized “khachkars.” The International Court of Justice has issued measures to prevent further damage, but Azerbaijan’s compliance is uncertain. The U.S. Administration must prioritize protecting these invaluable cultural sites, ensuring that diplomatic efforts address and halt this cultural genocide.

The Center for Truth and Justice (CFTJ) will continue to closely monitor the situation and address the issue of cultural genocide in Nagorno-Karabakh. Stay tuned for updates and reports on this critical matter. We thank Global Arm for their tireless efforts on this.
