NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York City went five days this week without any shooting victims. It’s the longest the NYPD has seen since recording shooting victims over the last 30 years; now, the streak has ended.
At 10:15 p.m. Thursday, after a car crash, a 34-year-old man was shot in both of his legs in East New York. The victim is expected to be ok.
Then, early Friday morning, a 17-year-old was shot in the Soundview section of the Bronx.
A bullet hit the teen in his leg. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.
In a statement, the NYPD said,
“This is the longest we’ve gone without a shooting victim since the beginning of the Compstat era and is a result of the brave work that the members of The NYPD do every day.”
So far this year, there have been 29 shooting incidents compared to 39 shooting incidents last year, reflecting a 25.6% decrease in shootings.
Police are looking for information leading to an arrest in both shootings.
Submit tips to police by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting crimestoppers.nypdonline.org, downloading the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app, or texting 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. Spanish-speaking callers are asked to dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
