Progressive Action for the Common Good celebrates 4th Anniversary of Racial Equality Rallies

MOLINE, Ill (KWQC) – Progressive Action for the Common Good is still bringing awareness through its rallies to community members four years later. The group has gathered for a rally at the corner of John Deere Road and 16th Street in Moline every Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until 12:30 p.m.

Caryn Unsicker president of PACG says they want to make the community aware of ongoing racial issues. Unsicker says the effort to rally came after George Floyd’s death in 2020.

Unsicker says she and fellow member Glenda Guster were concerned that all the news coverage would fade away quickly without any solutions. She says they decided to enlist members to join their rallies to honor Floyd, and other victims and to advocate for racial equality in the country.

Malcolm Walker, a a person who is new to the rallies says he feels the rallies are opportunities to motivate others.

“I look at it as that this could be a stepping stone to become something greater. And a lot of the time, i feel like we become so limited in what we’re only doing that when we have the opportunity to actually go outside of ourselves. There’s a change that can be made,” said Walker.

Unsicker says what keeps her motivated is the response the group gets from the community.

“I’m just encouraged by all the honks we get, and thumbs up from white people, black people, all kinds of people every week, it tells us if it wasn’t for that, we probably would have quit. But it tells me that people want to keep the conversation going. And, and keep the issue alive,” said Unsicker.

If anyone would like to join in on the rally PACG says they will continue to meet on the same corner every Saturday from 12:00 p.m. noon until 12:30 p.m. and will have extra signs.
