The Seattle Mariners Community Impact Grant Program was established to help ensure our communities are places where everyone can thrive. We will invest in organizations, programs and partnerships that focus on systemic change efforts that lead to positive health outcomes for youth, and accelerating equitable outcomes for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.
Details
The Community Impact Grants seek to increase positive health outcomes for youth and accelerate equitable outcomes for BIPOC communities across Washington State. To do so, we will support efforts that:
- Increase youth participation in physical activity with a focus on baseball and softball, by creating access, removing barriers, and building a culture of inclusion.
- Decrease the stigma associated with mental health needs and grow access to mental health support for youth, especially during the COVID-19 crisis and recovery.
- Invest in organizations, coalitions, and efforts that prioritize systemic approaches to create and accelerate equitable outcomes for BIPOC communities.
Focus Areas
Physical Activity for BIPOC Youth:
Support will be provided through the open grant process to organizations focused on research, advocacy and/or programs that increase youth participation in physical activity, with a focus on baseball and softball. To be considered, applicants must demonstrate how their work will create access, remove barriers to participation and build a culture of inclusion for youth, ages 5-18. Preference will be given to organizations that primarily support under-resourced BIPOC communities.
2021 Recipient: King County Play Equity Coalition
Mental Health Support for BIPOC Youth:
Support will be provided through the open grant process to organizations focused on research, advocacy and/or programs that decrease the stigma of mental health needs and increase access to mental health resources for youth, ages 5-18. To be considered, applicants must demonstrate how their work will lead to a decrease in the stigma of mental health needs and/or increase access to mental health resources for youth. Preference will be given to organizations that primarily support under-resourced BIPOC communities.

The Seattle Mariners Community Impact Grant program will provide support to a third area of focus through an invitation only process.
Accelerate Equitable Outcomes for BIPOC Communities in Washington State:
Support will be provided through an invitation only process to coalitions and organizations responding to the current issues most crucial for ensuring everyone, especially BIPOC communities, have equitable opportunity to thrive. Preference will be given to efforts focused on and leveraging research and advocacy as key elements of systemic change work.
