Advisory Council Member and Chair of the Working Group on Nuclear Issues, Constance Hays Matsumoto’s historical novel, Of White Ashes (Loyola University Maryland, May 2023),received the silver medal in the 36th annual IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award™ program’s historical fiction category. The IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards™ are administered by the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) – the largest book publishers association in the US with over 4,000 members. Of White Ashes was inspired by the true stories of Constance’sJapanese American father-in-law, a Hiroshima atomic bomb survivor, and mother-in-law, who was incarcerated in America’s camps during WWII.
