We are beyond thrilled to share that The Public Theater’s Board of Trustees has unanimously selected arts supporter, activist, and longtime board member Luis A. Miranda, Jr. as our next board chair!

Luis is a passionate champion of The Public Theater—he shares The Public’s commitment to equity and civic engagement, believes deeply in the power of theater to connect people and create community, and his enthusiasm for our mission is infectious. We are profoundly honored to welcome Luis into this role at such a crucial moment in our history, and we know he will be invaluable to the work we have ahead: producing thrilling new theater, nourishing the next generation of artistic leaders, and remaking The Delacorte, the home of Free Shakespeare in the Park, in the image of all New Yorkers.

In taking on this role, Luis will be standing on the shoulders of giants— particularly Arielle Tepper, who is passing the baton after nearly a decade of service as our board chair. Arielle joined the board in 2009, and her leadership has guided The Public through an unprecedented pandemic; the creation of Public Studios, a 20,000 square foot rehearsal space across from our Astor Place home; the launching of the renovation of The Delacorte; as well as the creation and development of landmark productions like Fun Home, Girl From the North Country, for colored girls…, and Hamilton. We are both deeply grateful to Arielle for her transformative tenure and look forward to continuing our work with her on the board.

Please join us in celebrating Arielle for her tremendous leadership over the last decade, and welcoming Luis as the new chair of the board of The Public Theater!
