💡Driven by the leadership of Julie Inman – Grant, Australia is taking positive steps to introduce age verification requirements on pornography sites. But as Matt Tyler and I called for in our recent National Press Club speech, more is needed to reduce harm due to violent pornography. The UK amendment is a clear example of a next step that the Federal Government could take.
📚Based on a survey of 1,400 adolescents, Jesuit Social Services Adolescent Man Box study found, of those adolescents who reported seeing pornography, 63% had seen someone being choked, pushed, shoved, kicked, punched, slapped or gagged in the pornography they watched.
💔 It’s no wonder over 1 in 10 boys believe if a teenage boy has sex with a teenage girl, he should decide what happens and what she does during sex. This increases to more than a third for boys who most rigidly endorse restrictive masculine ideas – that a boy should always be confident, act tough and never back down from a challenge – many of which are reinforced in pornography.
