Out of desperation, she accepted a fraudulent job offer in Thailand that turned out to be a trap for sex trafficking. After nearly two years of exploitation, she finally regained her freedom. Her powerful message has stayed with me ever since. Listen to what she has to say.
“You don’t understand how lost I feel. Imagine being someone who can’t make her own choices, where others decide everything for you—what to do, when to do it, and who to be with. It feels like being trapped in a cage, with no options and no freedom.
Think about being trafficked. It’s not just losing your freedom; it’s losing who you are. You become something for others to use, and your voice doesn’t matter. You feel worthless and helpless, forced to do things that hurt you inside and out, leaving deep scars.
Imagine the constant hurt, the disrespect, and the betrayal from those who should care for you. It’s humiliating to be treated like less than human. This pain doesn’t just go away; it lingers like a storm inside, leaving you feeling empty.
Every reminder of your trauma can weigh heavily on you. You might think your heart will break, but instead, it becomes numb from the pain.
If you can understand even a bit of my suffering, you’d see how much it affects my life. I might smile in public, but deep down, I carry heavy burdens. The trauma is always with me, like a shadow I can’t shake off.
This is my reality—a life full of pain and a longing for freedom. Please try to understand that my struggle is about reclaiming my humanity and dignity in a world that often overlooks my daily fight. Feel this with me, and you will grasp how deep my pain really is.”
Last night I had a dream about this forgotten encounter, and this compelled me to write about it.
What would you say to this person? What can anyone say?
