This International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma webinar opens ICMGLT’s series on Reparative Education, that is, education/schooling that takes place during and after massive trauma. At its best, reparative education delivers normalizing continuous containing structure and didactic knowledge or knowhow to obtain an outcome. But it also must empathically resonate with and reparatively attend to the total teaching/learning process of both the teacher’s and the students’ experiences and their various impacts on the process. International experts will explore and reflect on the various dimensions of reparative education. They will share challenges such as maintaining awareness and integrating the multiplicity of roles necessitated by the traumatic situations and lessons they have learned and make recommendations for the specialized training required for the future.

Ismail Issa
Ismail Issa is a Yazidi educator, researcher, and development professional from Sinjar, Iraq, with extensive experience in education, project management, finance, human resources, logistics, and community engagement. He has worked with both international and local organizations, contributing to education, humanitarian response, and community recovery initiatives. Ismail is pursuing a master’s degree in Linguistics at the University of Mosul, remaining actively involved in research, advocacy, and efforts to preserve and promote Yazidi culture and heritage.
Levon Sarmazian, MA, B.Ed., OCT
Levon Sarmazian is the Education Director of the Sara Corning Centre for Genocide Education in Ontario, Canada. A descendant of Armenian Genocide survivors, his personal connection to this history informs his commitment to genocide and human rights education. Levon has held various roles as an educator and advocate, including with the Armenian National Committee of Canada and recently completed a Master’s degree in Leadership.
Dr. Carole Berotte Joseph
Dr. Carole Berotte Joseph is a trailblazing educator, visionary leader, and steadfast champion of educational equity. Born in Haiti and raised in New York City, Dr. Joseph made history in 2005 as the first Haitian American appointed president of a U.S. college. For more than four decades, she has elevated educational opportunity, advanced multicultural understanding, and transformed lives through her extraordinary leadership and unwavering belief in the power of education to create a more just and inclusive world.
Annie Matundu Mbambi
Known as “Mama 1325,” Annie is a leading voice of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda (WPS) Agenda in Africa and globally. Formerly Gender Advisor at the Ministry of Gender, Family and Child of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), she has held senior roles including Mayor of Boma Honorary President of Women International League for Peace and Freedom/DRC and former Regional Representative for Africa. Annie authored the 1325 Glossary and Resolution 1325: Evolution after 25 Years of Commitment to WPS.
Dr. Viktor Vus, PhD
Dr. Viktor Vus, PhD is an Associate Professor at the relocated Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University, Ukraine, and the Editor-in-Chief of the Mental Health: Global Challenges Journal. He serves as the World Federation for Mental Health Representative to the World Health Organization. During the ongoing war, Dr. Vus was the National Co-Chair of Ukraine’s Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Technical Working Group and MHPSS Technical Advisor and National child-centered Programs Coordinator for Save the Children.

A clinical psychologist, traumatologist, victimologist and psychohistorian, Dr. Danieli is Founder, Executive Director and Senior Representative to the United Nations of the International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma (ICMGLT); Director, Group Project for Holocaust Survivors and their Children and Past-President, International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
