With the right investments, gender equality is within reach, and progress is already visible:

✔️ More girls than ever are completing school.

✔️ Maternal deaths have dropped by nearly 40% since 2000.

✔️ Strong laws and protections mean far lower rates of violence against women.

✔️ Nearly 100 new or reformed laws in just 5 years have broken down discrimination.

“Where gender equality has been prioritized, it has propelled societies and economies forward,” said UN Women chief Sima Bahous. “Targeted investments in gender equality have the power to transform societies and economies.”

But hard-won gains are under threat. Around the world, women’s rights face an unprecedented backlash, civic space is shrinking, and funding for gender equality is declining.

The report, by UN Women and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, calls on countries to step up efforts to close the gender gap and advance women’s rights worldwide. https://lnkd.in/eNDH8T-n
