TORN: The Israel-Palestine Poster War on NYC StreetsWins 2026 New York Emmy® Award

The International Center for MultiGenerational Legacies of Trauma (ICMGLT) congratulates the filmmakers and creative team behind TORN: The Israel-Palestine Poster War on NYC Streets on winning the 2026 New York Emmy® Award for Documentary – Cultural at the 69th Annual New York Emmy® Awards, held on October 10, 2026.

Directed by Nim Shapira, the documentary received two nominations, including Documentary – Cultural and Director – Long Form Content, recognizing its powerful exploration of identity, grief, conflict, and the challenges of empathy in deeply divided communities.

TORN follows ten New Yorkers caught in the controversy surrounding the “KIDNAPPED FROM ISRAEL” poster campaign following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks and the ensuing war in Gaza. Through personal experiences and competing perspectives, the film examines how a conflict thousands of miles away transformed New York City’s streets into a space of confrontation, solidarity, protest, and collective grief.

ICMGLT’s Previous Webinar Featuring TORN

On October 16, 2025, ICMGLT hosted a special webinar titled “TORN” — New York City after October 7, marking the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks and the ensuing war in Gaza.

Moderated by Dr. Yael Danieli, Founder and Executive Director of ICMGLT, the webinar featured filmmaker Nim Shapira alongside Nina Mogilnik, Julia Simon, and Shany Granot-Lubaton.

The discussion explored the documentary’s creation and impact, the personal experiences of those involved, and the broader implications of trauma, identity, empathy, and the multigenerational consequences of conflict.

This conversation reflected ICMGLT’s ongoing commitment to fostering dialogue, understanding, and healing in communities affected by violence and collective trauma.
